On December, 20th our CEO & Co-founder, Ion Padilla spoke at the “Dam Safety from Space” virtual workshop event that was organized by the World Bank and Directorate General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing of the Republic of Indonesia.

The aim was to showcase global experience in the use of modern technologies to improve the safety of dams and was set to welcome more than 100 dam safety experts as well as esteemed speakers from the likes of UNESCO and HYPOS Consortium.

Ion presented the use of radar for improved dam safety and monitoring for disaster prevention and mitigation and optimization of electricity production from a global perspective, with the objective to share insights about fully integrated water information systems that are empowered with accurate weather forecast equipped with state-of-the-art reservoir models.

Our CEO & Co-founder, Ion Padilla participated in the “Leveraging AI to achieve Net-Zero” panel discussion on the 6th of December alongside Lubomila Jordanova, Co-Founder & CEO of Plan A; Jesse Dodge, Research Scientist of Allen Institute for AI (AI2) and Emiliya Mychasuk, Climate Editor of Financial Times.

The discussion explored the transformative impact of AI on businesses amongst policy makers, business leaders and AI experts at the inaugural AI Transformation Summit that offered attendees inspiring keynotes, thought provoking panels and sector-specific case studies.

We are very grateful to have been invited to participate in this excellent agenda that also featured thought-leaders from World Economic Forum, Citi, European Parliament, Accenture, Socos Labs and Nordea to name-drop just a few. Sincerest thanks to the organizers at FT Live and co-host TNW (The Next Web) and supporting partner Women in Tech forum for facilitating this forward thinking dialogue.

On December, 1st at Espace Saint-Marc in Le Châble, Switzerland the Smart Water conference is set to bring together all players in the water sector to join discussions on different themes that will be covered during the day through a variety of sessions focusing on extreme rains, hydroelectricity, as well as a broader sessions on innovation and digitalization in the field of energy.

We offered thought-leading insights during Space and Sustainability World Space Week 2022 from our CEO and R&D team who answered an exceptional array of questions from attendees in the live Q&A session.

Wegaw is one of four international finalists of the Oslo Innovation Week 100 Pitches Competition! Powered by DNB, the purpose of #100pitches is to connect corporates, investors, VC’s and partners with impactful startup teams that are working towards the United Nations sustainable development goals.

The finale event will take place on 29th September 2022 between 3.30pm-5pm at DNB Bank Headquarters in Oslo and the winner will be announced at the end of the program. We are sincerely proud that our very own CEO, Co-Founder and Chairman – Ion Padilla – was invited to take to the stage at the Campus Repsol in Madrid, Spain on the 11th of July 2022 as a guest Keynote Speaker at the 11th Repsol Foundation annual call for the Entrepreneurs Fund to share the story about his and Wegaw’s entrepreneurial journey so far.

The event was opened by Antonio Brufau the Chairman of Repsol and Carme Artigas, Spain’s Secretary of State for Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence, and incorporated a presentation of the startups chosen for the 11th call, followed by networking with cocktails.

SPARK brought together 350 senior speakers and thousands of innovators and leaders from across Europe to lead discussions on how to shape the future of the energy transition at The Excel Centre in London (UK).

Our CEO, Ion Padilla joined a fantastic range of entrepreneurs from across the world’s elitist energy industry to present Wegaw’s latest updates in its’ innovative journey to empower a carbon-neutral future.

Through the power of satellite data, Wegaw monitors renewable energy sources like water and snow and utilises cutting-edge machine learning skills, to provide companies around the world with datasets that would help them to reduce renewable energy imbalances, increase trading efficiencies and move away from fossil fuel dependencies.

Our team had a terrific time networking with international energy and water professionals at the exciting e-world conference and exhibition which took place between the 21st and 23rd of June in the historic city of Essen in Germany.

This years’ event offered a stupendous amount of open discussion opportunities, including at the Leadership Meeting Energy, Customer Solutions Forum and Trading Forum. There were numerous presentations, enriched with world-class speakers and industry-relevant topics, such as climate neutrality, digitisation and market trends.

Additionally, energy professionals and enthusiasts participated in the many virtual events taking place within the E-world Community in the run up to the physical conference and exhibition.

On Friday, the 10th of June, our CEO, Ion Padilla presented Wegaw at the Smart Tech virtual pitch session which was hosted by the open innovation platform – Plug and Play Tech Centre.

This exclusive event was streamed to a select number of venture capitalists, successful entrepreneurs, fellow startups and selected corporate partners based all over the world.

We are very thankful to have been invited by the event team at Plug and Play to this brilliant entrepreneurial line-up and look forward to seeing what may come next for what we hope to be a equally pleasing relationship.

As one of the 100 innovative SMEs and start-ups selected by the esteemed jury members of Swiss Innovation Challenge, our CEO – Ion Padilla – virtually joined the eighth edition of the pitching competition on the 9th of June.

This 8 month contest comprises of 3 stages of pitches, starting with 100 entrepreneurs in the first round, to 50 in the 2nd round, to 25 in the 3rd round and then finally, the top 3 finalists. The Award Ceremony will be presented to an audience of more than 3,000 spectators on the “Tag der Wirtschaft” which is set to place at St. Jakobshalle Basel in Switzerland.

We are exceptionally proud to have qualified to go through to the second stage as one of the 50 semi-finalists. Ultimately, we may have the chance to be in the top 3 final pitch round this October!

We are immensely proud to have joined in with the South Summit’s 10th anniversary celebration alongside key players of the Spanish Startup ecosystem at the innovative industry gathering that was hosted between the 8th and 10th of June in Spain’s capital, Madrid.

This years’ theme navigated and unleashed an enormous amount of opportunities by “decoding a complex world focusing on the intersections of industries and technology“. According to the organisers, “Sustainable and inclusive products and services that help us navigate this complexity and harness its power will thrive, exposing the tools and solutions we have to hand that will help us construct this next chapter.“, naturally we couldn’t agree more!

We were very pleased to pitch in the Startup Competition as well as take part in a very pertinent panel discussion titled “Making Smarter Decision for Planet Earth” alongside innovative tech leaders as well as the esteemed Teresa Ribera – Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister for Ecological Transition.

Thanks to a cooperation between the ZHAW School of Management and Law and Messe Schweiz, the Energy Startup Day will take place during the Powertage trade fair between the 17 and 19 of May 2022 at Messe Zürich.

As a pioneer within the Swiss energy industry, we are thrilled to be participating in the third Pitching and Poster networking session starting at 3.50pm

If all goes well then we may be in for a chance to win The Public Choice Award, which is determined by event attendees, or even The Experts Choice Award which is determined by a jury of innovation and energy experts involved with the event.

This years’ Social Sustainability & Equality Conference in Oslo was an excellent opportunity to engage with leaders and professionals within the Norwegian energy industry as well as across a number of innovative sectors.
